The Tai-Lue Community in San Diego has contributed to the growth and history of city’s Laotian History. Usually they have done so right beside the Lao American Community. Sharing the same language but different dialect / accent, the same religion, the Lue and Lao Community shared the same spaces in San Diego. The temples were often the center. The gatherings of New Years in April are shared between both communities. Due to the differences and uniqueness of both groups, I felt it was necessary to have the Lue New Year celebrations stand on its own. The traditional fashion, customs, and dances deserve a space to be seen on their own. The photos below highlight the Lue New Year celebrations from 2016 - 2018.
I would also like to dedicate this gallery to Khong Khongsaly, who passed away on January 28th, 2021. Khong was one of the best dancers of the Lue Warrior Dance, Fawn Juern. You will see a display on Khong performing a solo of Fawn Juern below. Rest in Paradise to one of the greatest Tai-Lue Dancers in San Diego.
